UK 2.0: Edinburgh - Day 4 - Beach

On our last day in Scotland, we got up early and walked to the sea. In the 20 minutes trek, we passed the shadowed Holyrood Park, and the still restful suburb neighborhood to reach Portobello beach.

There were scarcely anyone on the sandy bay save for a lady and her energetic dog racing though the dunes when we arrived. As the winter sun slowly broke through the horizon, cool morning wind wiped up trails of sand behind them.

All was peaceful. The wave pounded rhythmatically. The warmth of dawning sun slowly washes over the sleepy beach. And then, as we rounded a bend towards the nostalgic resort town portion of Portobello, there were explosions of energy and liveliness. The dog walkers outnumbers my fingers. The congregating canines came in all shapes, sizes, colors and personalities. Big white shepherd danced and tumbled with other smaller breeds. A regal husky strode by on his owners leash with confident springs in his steps. I watch the domesticated wolves till nature beckoned me to take a bus back into the city center's Princes Street.

After finding relief for my urgent plight, we strode causally by the green valley dividing the old and new town of Edinburgh.

The sun was brilliant as we ascended the hill to Edinburgh Castle's gate. It was Tuesday. There were not as many people compared to the weekends.

I passed below the gates between the twin statue of Robert the Bruce (below) and William Wallace, both national heroes of the highlanders.

Into the castle we went, up the slope and into the ancient defender.
